I just watched the video on Lawrence O'Donnell -- what exactly is happening here? Why is a man pulled over for a freakin' missing front plate, by a campus police officer outside of the campus?
How many times have you driven without your license? Lots. Around here in Oregon, the cops don't much care if you have your license, as long as they can run you and find out that you have a valid license. Or maybe that's the white rule.
I'm a little unclear about how the shooting happened here. I watched the video twice, but to be honest, I can't stand watching the video over again, it's so bad. It looked to me as if just after the officer told Dubose to take off his seat belt, Dubose seems to have locked the car door, or perhaps attempted to lock it, and then the officer immediately moved forward towards the front end of the car, and shot Dubose. The car then rolled on down the street, with the officer running behind.
Black folks have a lot greater chance of being killed by police then by terrorists. Let's reroute some of that "anti-terrorism" money into mandatory body and car cams for all police officers.
Next, we need to track every instance of police use of force, this includes drawing of a weapon, even if it's not discharged. The Portland Police Bureau has been doing this for a number of years. We need solid data to know when, where, how and against whom force is used.
